Study looks into ADB-assisted projects in the Philippines

PhilDHRRA, with support from the Asian Partnership for the Development of Human Resources in Rural Asia (AsiaDHRRA), is currently undertaking a project on Strengthening Social Accountability Mechanisms for Food Security and Agricultural Development.

The project aims to strengthen the capacity of civil society organizations to monitor and analyze public expenditure processes of international development institutions and national agencies focusing on agriculture, and to advocate for a more effective use of scarce public resources that can lead to food self-sufficiency and sustainable rural development outcomes. A parallel study is also being implemented in Indonesia. The focal institution monitored is the Asian Development Bank (ADB). One ADB-assisted project was identified to serve as case study—the Agrarian Reform Communities Project (ARCP) implemented by the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR).

As a culminating activity, a joint National and Regional Forum will be held on May 18 at the Discovery Suites where the study findings will be presented. Invited participants are from local and regional civil society organizations, relevant national agencies, and from the ADB. The full study may be downloaded at the PhilDHRRA website soon.
